Fixing Country Bridges Program

The Fixing Country Bridges Program is a $500 million NSW Government program, enabling councils to replace hundreds of timber bridges in poor condition and better connect regional and rural communities.

Fixing Country Bridges is a grant-based program where councils could apply for funding to replace ageing timber bridges in poor condition on council-owned and managed roads in rural and regional NSW.

Many ageing timber bridges are susceptible to damage during natural disaster and weather events. Replacing them with modern materials improves their resilience and provides safer, more reliable travel and access for regional communities.

The Fixing Country Bridges Program is on track to replace about 500 bridges across 58 eligible local government bodies across the life of the Program.

Program objectives

The Program aims to reduce the maintenance and renewal burden for councils on hundreds of timber bridges in regional and rural NSW. In addition to providing community benefits, the Program is injecting much needed funds into local economies and increasing local employment opportunities.

Program outcomes

Fixing Country Bridges is about:

  • Enhancing regional development
  • Promoting community access and safety
