The Wagga Wagga Transport Plan is the first place-based transport plan developed by Transport for NSW for a regional city in NSW.
The Plan articulates how Transport for NSW and Wagga Wagga City Council will respond to changes in land use, population, and travel demand. It provides a blueprint for transforming the way people and goods will travel within, to and through Wagga Wagga over the next 20 years.
Through this plan, Transport for NSW will ensure Wagga Wagga’s future transport network is safe, sustainable and productive.
It sets a path to diversify transport options in the city, and surrounding villages while ensuring that we preserve and enhance the character of local areas.
The car is currently the dominant method of travel in Wagga Wagga. As the city grows, residents will need improved access to public transport, walking and cycling routes and point-to-point travel.
The suburbs of Wagga Wagga will be places where people regularly choose to walk and cycle to shops, services, schools or work.
Rural villages and towns surrounding Wagga Wagga will require a more diverse range of transport options to make them attractive and liveable for residents.
Transport for NSW held workshops and formal engagement sessions with key stakeholders to develop the draft Wagga Wagga Transport Plan. The Draft Plan was publicly exhibited from 23 April 2021 to 28 May 2021.
Transport for NSW received 122 submissions from the public. This feedback helped reshape the narrative in the Final Plan. Common themes in the feedback included:

Wagga Wagga Transport Plan
The roll out of a safer, more efficient and accessible transport network in Wagga Wagga is now a major step closer following the release of a 20-year vision for the city.
To achieve the 2041 transport vision for Wagga Wagga, the Plan has identified 35 initiatives under the following three themes:
Connected – a transport network that facilitates seamless, multi-modal connectivity between where people live, work and play.
Safe – a transport network that delivers a safer future for the people of Wagga Wagga.
Productive – a transport network that supports the efficient, safe and sustainable movement of people and goods within Wagga Wagga and can swiftly pivot to take advantage of beneficial emerging technologies.
Responsibility for the 35 initiatives will be shared between Transport for NSW and Wagga Wagga City Council.
Shared accountability for the Plan will be vital in meeting the needs of our customers both now and in the future.
The Wagga Wagga Transport Plan will improve connectivity, safety, and productivity to, from and within Wagga Wagga.
