Bolivia Hill - New England Highway

The preferred route for the upgrade of Bolivia Hill was confirmed in February 2014. You can view or download the Bolivia Hill preferred route option report.

The preferred route for the Bolivia Hill upgrade will:

• Improve road safety
• Improve road transport productivity, efficiency and reliability of travel
• Minimise the impact on the natural, cultural and built environment
• Provide value for money.

Seedlings of the rare and endangered Bolivia Hill Wattle have been collected and delivered to Mount Annan Botanic Gardens for preservation. The unique wattle was identified during the review of environmental factors for the planned upgrade of the New England Highway at Bolivia Hill.

The discovery provided an opportunity for Transport for NSW to work with the local community to gather and store seeds. Five people from the Inverell Aboriginal Men’s Group were trained to monitor the wattle to ensure the seeds were suitable for collection and then later, planting.

The wattle is unique to the area, growing only between Bolivia Hill and Glen Innes and Tenterfield, so it’s important to preserve it for future generations.
